Oceania's player of the 20th century, New Zealander Wynton Rufer, said Thursday he expected FIFA corruption suspects Renald Temarii and Amos Adamu would be sacked by the world body.
The pair, both members of FIFA's executive committee, were suspended from all football-related duty by FIFA following allegations by a London newspaper that they attempted to sell their votes in the coming ballot for host nation of the 2018 World Cup.
Temarii, 43, is president of the Oceania Football Confederation, and represents New Zealand at FIFA.
Rufer, 47, who is a FIFA ambassador against racism, was quoted on the Stuff news website as saying, "My feeling is the guys will be sacked.
"It's not just a bad look for New Zealand football, or even the OFC, it's a bad look for FIFA," he said. "This is serious stuff, it's just shocking. I just think for world football this is very bad news."
Temarii, who was born in Tahiti, played for French club FC Nantes, before becoming minister for youth and sport in French Polynesia.
He has been president of the OFC and a FIFA executive committee member since 2004.
